Building and sustaining your game community with little or (almost) no budget

"Chernobylite" is a survival horror game created with the idea of community-driven development. 3D-scanning of real Chernobyl Zone for a video game is a concept crazy enough to bring some interest to the new IP, but our goal always was to gather as big and as the dedicated community around the project as possible.

The talk depicts the attempts to build the die-hard fan group for your game using crazy ideas, clever tricks, social media, and crowdfunding platforms. Telling the 5-years-long story of “Chernobylite” project developed by The Farm 51, we’ll show how we initiated and sustained the community building, what were the wins and fails of marketing strategy and why we’ve succeeded on Kickstarter even without having enough statistically proven number of supporters.
